The hem stitch. This is a lesson on the classic hem stitch which is a hand stitched hem. There are many types of hem stitches, some hems are done by machine and some are done by hand. This hem stitch is best suited to classic garments like a good suit, a beautiful dress or perhaps a great pair of dress slacks, and best suited to hems that have been prepared with seam binding.
